Background
Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues is a Lego action-adventure game that features four different stories. This is the sequel to Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure. The game is formed of four stories from the popular Indiana Jones movies such as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Temple of Doom; each story has its own level which can be accessed through various hubs.
It was developed by Traveller's Tales and TT Fusion developed the handheld versions of the game; it was published by LucasArts in 2009.
Gameplay
Each story in the game has four unique levels that are focused around one of four things: Puzzles, Vehicles, Brawls or Boss Battles. Some levels combine these elements however and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is split into three different sections which each contain the five sub-levels. There are also five treasure modes and five bonus levels, completing these will unlock the super bonus level.
The levels are open world, and the player can select what to do first or go to another area if they become stuck; the currency collected in the game needs to be used to complete puzzles, call for special packages and vehicles. The vehicles have basic controls and need to be found around the level then upgraded; the levels focused on driving contain checkpoints and can include different events such as destruction derbies.
Various items exist in the game which can be used at any point in the world, the Crystal Skull for example creates a forcefield around the player to deter some types of enemies. When engaging in combat the player can use several weapons and also pick up weapons dropped by enemies; players can fight using melee, the whip, a sword or spear, a gun or crossbow and several thrown weapons such as a grenade. Each weapon has a different use, and the player can carry up to four weapons at once.
Players can play through the various levels in the game using a two-player co-op feature that is focused on split-screen; it allows players to separate and explore the levels themselves which also merging the screen into one when both players are close to each other. It is also possible to play with others online with online co-op.
When playing the game alone, the player is given an AI teammate who is needed to complete some of the puzzles in the game; certain puzzles require two players. The majority of puzzles in the game are traditional to the series and varied.
The game features a level creator that allows players to build a brand new level or customize a level they've already played; there is no way to share or download levels created by other people.
What's New
Several small changes were made for this game. The player now has greater control over Indiana Jones' whip so that it can grab a target; this is limited to certain objects or characters and is mostly used in puzzles.
The second character AI has been improved and it features less combat than the first game; the hub area has been designed, and players need to discover the level entrances.
